Get a Library Card

During the library’s temporary closure and limited open hours due to COVID-19, all Highwood residents can obtain a temporary library card online so that you can download ebooks and eaudiobooks. No need to come in! Register for your card here.

All residents of Highwood are eligible for a library card. Library cards are free. Library cards are valid for three years for residents and two years for non-residents. To get a card you need to bring identification and proof of residency via a photo ID showing a current address. If the photo ID does not have a current address, the library will accept an additional form of address verification.

Photo ID can be provided with:

  • Illinois Driver’s License
  • Illinois State ID
  • Foreign National Voter Registration with Photo
  • Consulate ID
  • Military ID
  • Passport

Address verification can be provided with:

  • Checks /Current Lease/Mortgage
  • Automobile Registration or Auto Insurance Policy
  • Property Tax Bill
  • Utility Bills
  • School ID
  • Voter Registration
